What Would Judy Do?
Marjie Shrimpton invites you to forget your troubles and join her for a night inspired by the legendary Judy Garland. Weaving stories and songs from Judy’s life and her own, throughout the evening Marjie will attempt to answer the big question: “What Would Judy Do” (or sing) if she were trying to chase our cares away in 2018?
Marjie premiered What Would Judy Do?, directed and co-conceived by Michael Pesce, in January 2018 to a sold-out audience at The Duplex Cabaret Theatre in New York, NY, featuring Max Gordon (The Band's Visit) on keys and vocal guests Lauren Patten (Fun Home) and Daniel Emond (Great Comet). She received wide praise, earning a review from Cabaret Scenes Magazine saying, “Shrimpton really shined, showing her magnificent potential as a performer.”
This fall, Marjie was thrilled to bring her show back home to Minnesota! In Grand Rapids, hometown to both she and Judy, she performed on her home stage at The Reif Center, accompanied by local pianist Susan Hoolihan and bassist Butch Schmidt. In Minneapolis, with another sold-out audience at Bryant-Lake Bowl & Theater, jazz pianist Ted Godbout joined her on the keys with Zach Mullan featured on guitar.
