Kneeling with one knee up and her arms outstretched over her knees, NYC actor Marjie Shrimpton looks up, almost thoughtfully, with a smile on her face, in a black-and-white polka dot shirt and black jeans.

Hi, I’m Marjie.

Raised in small-town northern Minnesota, I’m a Brooklyn-based actor with a love for period pieces, dark comedies, and smart, heart-filled dramas.

I spent many years of my early career singing and dancing my heart out (and my knees) — including choreographing and collaborating on creative teams, as well as creating my own solo cabaret honoring Judy Garland, What Would Judy Do?

These days, I focus more on straight theatre and film and TV.

In the fall of 2024, I co-founded Kind Strangers Collective, an NYC-based theatre company committed to bold storytelling, amplifying new voices, and forging opportunities to perform work that excites and challenges us most. We’re two sold-out productions in, with many more to come.

Some favorite performances…

Mac, a sharp-witted, emotionally scarred woman who robs the dead for a living, in the one-woman one-act The Thief of Tears from Jeffrey Hatcher’s Three Viewings.

The Skin of Our Teeth, directed by Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize–winner David Auburn and starring Tony-winner Harriet Harris.

Actors Caleb Michael and Marjie Shrimpton, mid-dance number, appear on stage at La Comedia Dinner Theatre, playing Judy Haynes and Phil Davis in "White Christmas".

Judy Haynes in Irving Berlin’s White Christmas (I can recite the movie by rote).
